1. How much is private tuition per hour UK?

Tuition fees will vary from institution to institution. One thing to keep in mind is that cheaper options may include fewer points of contact. Some educational providers have a low price of entry but have large class sizes, which effectively can relegate the learner to a passive, listening role. Others simply provide “packs” with course information for students to work through. Our hourly fee of £85 at Greene’s includes small-group tuition (i.e. 1-3 students per expert tutor), taught in our self-same interactive and Socratic learning style as in our sixth form. You pick the subject, we deliver Oxford-level quality. One student described the experience: “At Greene’s, I have one-to-one tutorials. It’s really cool because all of the attention from tutors goes straight to you. That’s amazing because any any question that you have, you can get the answer to. In one tutorial you can study a new topic and in another you can say “I’m not really clear about this topic” and you can take another look at it.”

2. Is private tuition worth it?

Private tuition is often considered “worth it” for several reasons. It provides personalised attention, allowing students to focus on their specific learning needs and pace. In a private setting, tutors can tailor their teaching methods to suit the individual’s learning style, reinforcing understanding and boosting confidence. This one-on-one interaction addresses gaps in knowledge more effectively than a classroom setting might.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of private tuition?

Advantages of private tuition include personalised attention, tailored learning, and flexibility. It can boost academic performance and confidence. However, disadvantages may include high costs and dependency on individual tutors. The effectiveness of private tuition can depend on the quality of the tutor-student relationship and the student’s learning preferences. Take the time to consider whether private tuition is right for you. We always strive to be as trustworthy as possible at Greene’s and in our consultations with potential students we ask them whether our learning style works for them – it works wonders for many, but some prefer larger classes, which isn’t something we often cater for.

Generally, private tuition caters to individual needs and can provide assistance for various academic levels – at Greene’s we provide tuition for GCSEs and A levels. Outside of Greene’s, the specific subjects available may vary based on the expertise of the private tutor or tutoring service.
