The 5 best apps for A level revision
Discover the top five apps that will supercharge your A-level revision, making studying more efficient and effective than ever before.
1. Forest App | Free | IOS & Android
If you’re a fan of revising in short spurts with the Pomodoro technique, or just find it plain hard to stay away from your phone or computer, the Forest app is a great way to ensure that you stay focused.
How does it work? If you want to temporarily put down your phone and focus on what’s more important in real life, you can plant a seed in Forest. Set a timer from a single minute to multiple hours. As your time goes by, this seed will gradually grow into a tree. However, if you cannot resist the temptation of using your phone and leave the app, your tree will wither and die.
Over time, with each successful plant, you’ll build a vibrant forest – and learn how to develop better study techniques.
2. EVERNOTE | Free | IOS & Android
Lost your notes again? Or struggling to keep them all in a single place. Evernote is a cross-platform app that allows you to bring your notes, to-do lists, and schedules wherever you are, or whatever device you are on.
The really useful aspect of Evernote is that is syncs across all your devices – whether IOS or android, or even PC, so you’ll have your revision cue cards, notes, and schedule wherever you are! (It also helps to save the planet – no paper!) Start on one device and finish on another.
3. Quizlet | Free | ios & android
Quizlet is used by many students for their A level revision. It allows you to create flashcards (as well as browse those made by others), test your knowledge with quizzes and listen to audio of your study material in several different languages. You can even ask your tutors to build quizzes for you! It’s great for squeezing in revision when you have a spare 5 minutes – whether you’re stuck on the bus, or waiting for your friends.
4. CiteTHISFORME | free | chrome
With this Google Chrome extension, you’ll find referencing easier than ever before! Simply browse to the page you wish to cite and click the button to generate a correctly formatted citation. Then copy-and-paste the citation into your assignment, or add it to your online bibliography for safe keeping until later. Several styles are available, including APA, Chicago, MLA, and Harvard. The free edition will help with up to 15 references, whilst the premium version which allows for unlimited references & a plagiarism checker costs £6.99 per month.
