While we will endeavour to have some of our tutors present, this evening is mainly aimed at creating an atmosphere for parents to meet each other and the Greene’s team.

Parent Charter

This Charter is about our aims, your part in that process, and what you can expect from the staff and service we provide.  Greene’s is committed to continually improving the service we provide, and so it is very important that we work together to ensure communication between home and College is accurate, timely and professional at all times.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM GREENE’S

You can expect that we will:

  • Treat you with respect, listen to your views and respond to communications within a reasonable timeframe;
  • Provide you with information about the College and its programmes of study;
  • Encourage you to visit the College, meet staff, attend open events and parent evenings as appropriate;
  • Provide access to information regarding your son or daughter’s progress and attendance through Greene’s Online;
  • Share details of who is your first point of contact for any queries or concerns;
  • Inform you if we are concerned about your son or daughter’s attendance, timekeeping, performance, or behaviour that gives cause for concern;
  • Seek your views on your experiences of the College;
  • Respond to information you give us about any individual needs your son or daughter may have.

OUR EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS/GUARDIANS

We expect you to:

  • Provide honest and accurate information about your son or daughter’s previous educational experience and history;
  • Report any changes to your son or daughter’s personal information to our College Receptionist within two weeks of becoming aware of the change.  This includes information that is contained in the Pre-admissions questionnaire, or collected during registration and includes any change of address and/or contact numbers and/or email;
  • Support the College by promoting and encouraging 100% attendance and ensuring holidays are not booked in term-time or during examinations;
  • Understand that students have to be willing to become ‘self-motivated’ & proactive in order to achieve the best academic outcomes at Greene’s.  For example, in relation to careers and university advice, although we will provide guidance and information, the process must be student-led.  It is, therefore, important that students and parents alike familiarise themselves with internal deadlines, how to check entry requirements, and how to communicate efficiently with the Senior Tutor who oversees university applications at the College;
  • Treat all members of the College Community with respect – setting a good example with language and behaviour;
  • Seek a peaceful and reasonable solution to any concerns; and this includes decisions made by the college in response to breaches of discipline and etiquette;
  • Attend either online or face-to-face meetings when requested to by the College;
  • Read slips and reports on our online portal, Greene’s Online, and if you have any queries or concerns about your son or daughter’s progress contact our Deputy Principal. Communication with tutors is reserved between students and tutors, and staff and tutors.  If you require any academic information or feedback from a tutor, we will liaise with them on your behalf.

HOW YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH GREENE’S

  • Staff members are available to support you from 9.00 a.m – 5.30 p.m Monday – Friday.  If you call outside these hours there is a voicemail facility available which will be picked up the next business day.  You can also e-mail your request to reception@greenes.org.uk identifying the member of staff you would like your query to be forwarded to.  Staff will endeavour to acknowledge your query, in whatever form, within 24 hours and resolve the query as soon as possible.  Staff who work part-time may take longer to respond.
  • Meetings take place with internal staff members who represent our tutor body, and not between parents and tutors.  There will be two main parents’ evenings (Michaelmas & Trinity) where you will be able to meet with the Deputy Principal who will be able to address any academic or pastoral queries or concerns;
  • Meetings with staff must always be pre-arranged.

COMPLAINTS

  1. If you are worried about any aspect of your son or daughter’s educational experience, please speak to our Deputy Principal.
  2. If you feel unhappy with their response or they are unable to help, do not hesitate to talk to our College Principal.

The College reserves the right to permanently exclude a student if this is in the interest of the majority of the students.

Abuse of staff either verbally, physically or written will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of a place at Greene’s College.  We trust that parents will assist our College with the implementation of this charter, and we thank you for your continuing support of the College.

Your Opportunity to connect

Our parents’ evenings are all about creating a sense of community. Our Principal, Deputy Principal and other members of staff will be present during the afternoon to answer questions you may have regarding your child’s progress. Most importantly, however, these afternoons are meant for you to meet other Greene’s parents, explore the college and get a sense of the atmosphere of a tutorial college. This is an opportunity for a friendly conversation over a glass of wine or a cuppa. We are looking forward to welcoming you.
