Greene’s Students Compete in Maths Challenge
Incredible Success for Greene’s College Students at the Senior Maths Challenge!
Certificate Achievements
Our students secured the following certificates based on their performance:
- 4 Bronze: Achieved by those scoring 49 or above.
- 1 Silver: Secured by a student who scored 66 or above.
- 2 Gold: Awarded to students scoring 83 or higher.
These certificates are not easy to come by, as the thresholds reflect the rigorous nature of the challenge. All students who participated are incredibly deserving of commendation for their effort and will receive certificates of participation. Congratulations to all!
Exceptional Gold Award Winners
Special mention must be made of our two Gold certificate winners, Arnaud and Debbie, who both achieved remarkable scores, placing them among the top performers nationwide.
- Arnaud scored an impressive 98, which qualifies him for the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo. This prestigious follow-up round is for students who score above 83, and Arnaud’s high score comfortably places him among those invited to continue their mathematical journey.
Debbie truly excelled, delivering an incredible performance by answering 24 out of 25 questions correctly, earning an extraordinary score of 120 out of 125. With this near-perfect result, Debbie skips the Kangaroo round altogether and qualifies straight for the highly competitive British Mathematical Olympiad, where only the very best students from across the country compete. The British Mathematical Olympiad is no small feat—it consists of 3 hours of tackling some of the most challenging mathematical problems around, and we’re incredibly proud of Debbie for her accomplishment.
What’s Next?
The British Mathematical Olympiad is a deeply challenging competition that tests students with advanced mathematical problems that require ingenuity, perseverance, and high-level reasoning. Debbie’s qualification for the BMO is a significant achievement that puts her in the top echelon of young mathematicians in the country.
Meanwhile, Arnaud’s upcoming participation in the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo is sure to be another exciting challenge. With his strong score in the Senior Challenge, we have every confidence that he will excel in this next round.
Looking Forward
These achievements reflect not only the exceptional mathematical talents of our students but also their hard work, determination, and passion for problem-solving. At Greene’s College Oxford, we are immensely proud of all the students who participated in the Senior Mathematical Challenge, and we eagerly await the results of the follow-up rounds.
We would also like to thank our Head of Maths tutor, Lamine Djellali, who encouraged our students to participate and organised the challenge for the college. We’ll be cheering on Arnaud in the Senior Kangaroo and Debbie in the British Mathematical Olympiad!
Good luck to all, as we continue to celebrate our mathematical stars!
