Greene’s Teen Ballet Prodigy Balances High-Intensity Training with Academic Excellence
In the competitive world of ballet, aspiring professionals often face rigorous training schedules that leave little room for anything else. Yet one young dancer, Alberto (18), who studied in the UK from age 12 to 16 and then moved to the Netherlands, demonstrates how to balance ballet and academics with grace.
After completing his GCSEs, he moved to Amsterdam to join the European School of Ballet, renowned as one of the top ballet schools in Europe, if not the world. The programme’s intense focus on ballet training does not offer an academic curriculum, leaving students to manage their studies independently. This is where Greene’s College Oxford was an ideal fit.
“I love ballet, but I also enjoy studying,” says Alberto. “It’s a nice way to have a balanced life.” Despite the high-intensity ballet programme, he pursued online studies with Greene’s, taking courses in A level Business Studies, A level Sociology, and A level Spanish. His interest in business stems from his family’s entrepreneurial background, while sociology provides a deeper understanding of society’s dynamics.
The flexibility offered by Greene’s College has been crucial in enabling him to continue his education. This reality drives his commitment to academic studies as a safety net for the future.
“I want to be a professional dancer, but I also know ballet doesn’t last forever,” he explains. “Having a solid education gives me options beyond the stage.” His goal is to eventually transition into a role in marketing or management within the arts or sports industry, leveraging his business studies.
Through all the challenges, he credits ballet for teaching him discipline and resilience. “Dancing has taught me to commit fully to my goals and not give up easily,” he adds. This mindset extends to his studies, where discipline plays a crucial role in maintaining momentum even when motivation wanes.
