Greene’s A Level POLITICS Tuition at a Glance

Since 1967, Greene’s College Oxford has delivered individual tutorial teaching rooted in the Oxford academic tradition. Our A Level Politics tuition is structured as focused academic supervision designed to strengthen essay writing, sharpen political analysis, and improve examination performance.

This tuition is best for students whose essays are not achieving the marks their understanding deserves, who struggle to balance explanation with evaluation under timed conditions, or who find it difficult to construct clear, well-evidenced arguments across Government and Politics papers.

Individual tutorials address these issues directly. Each session examines written work in detail, clarifies what examiners are looking for, and develops a more disciplined approach to essay planning and political argument. The aim is stronger analysis, more consistent writing, and greater confidence under examination pressure.

Who A Level Politics Tuition at Greene’s Is For

Students studying Government and Politics who find the demands of A Level writing challenging
Many students follow political debate with confidence in discussion but struggle to translate their understanding into structured, evaluative written argument. The gap between knowing the content and meeting examiner expectations in writing is where marks are most often lost.

Students who need more individual feedback than classroom teaching allows
In classroom settings, written feedback is often limited and students may not fully understand why marks were lost or how to improve. Individual tutorials allow a tutor to analyse essays in detail, clarify assessment criteria, and adapt guidance to the student’s way of thinking.

Students seeking greater consistency in examination performance
Some students contribute well in class but achieve uneven results in examinations. They often need clearer strategies for planning essays, managing time across papers, and selecting relevant examples under pressure.

Students who need time to explore political ideas and argument in depth
A Level Politics requires students to engage with political theory, competing ideologies, and topics such as global politics. Individual tutorials allow students to test arguments, refine interpretations, and build analytical confidence through sustained discussion and writing.

Parent of an A level politics student

“Greene’s course of tuition was very organised and the tutors were excellent. Online tutoring at Greene’s has been very effective – we actually found that we preferred it to face-to-face tuition and that it fit my son’s learning style perfectly!”

Why individual tuition works for A Level Politics

A Level Politics demands accurate knowledge, analytical thinking, and the ability to construct and evaluate arguments clearly in writing. When students misunderstand what examiners are looking for — or struggle to balance explanation with evaluation — exam performance suffers.

In group lessons, students may follow discussion confidently but struggle to produce high-quality written responses under timed conditions. Individual tuition allows a tutor to examine reasoning closely, identify where arguments lose clarity or precision, and address weaknesses before they become habits. This supports stronger judgement, clearer written expression, and more consistent performance across the course.

Individual tuition can also be valuable for students with special educational needs who benefit from a different pace, clearer structure, or more time to organise ideas before writing. Greene’s has longstanding experience supporting SEN students.

Greene’s Tutorial Approach

Tutorials are delivered online using the tutorial method that has defined a Greene’s education since 1967. From its Oxford campus on Pembroke Street, the college delivers structured online lessons with the same academic rigour upheld for more than five decades.

Preparation, discussion, and essay analysis
Tutorials are shaped by discussion, questioning, and close analysis of written argument — a conversation, not a lecture. Students prepare essays or written responses in advance, often drawing on past papers and case studies. Tutorials focus on evaluating that work in detail: tutors challenge assumptions, test the strength of arguments, and guide students toward clearer, more precise political analysis.

Developing independence of thought
Tutors require students to justify their reasoning, consider opposing viewpoints, and refine their positions. This develops the habits of critical thinking and independent judgement expected in Politics, International Relations, History, Law, and related university courses.

Progress Tracking Through Greene’s Online
Progress is tracked through Greene’s Online, the college’s proprietary learning platform. Students upload work, review assessments, and receive structured feedback between tutorials — keeping momentum between sessions.
